The Canadian Compliance Bureau monitors online auction platforms and consumer marketplaces to ensure fair practices, investigate complaints, and hold sellers and auction operators accountable to established standards of conduct.
About the CCB
An independent compliance and consumer advocacy organization dedicated to marketplace transparency and accountability.
The Canadian Compliance Bureau was established to address a growing gap in oversight of online auction platforms and consumer marketplaces operating in Canada. As online auctions have expanded rapidly, so too have instances of price manipulation, employee self-dealing, shill bidding, and other practices that undermine fair commerce and erode consumer trust.
Our mandate is to monitor auction platforms, investigate complaints from consumers and market participants, document patterns of non-compliance with platform terms of service and applicable regulations, and pursue corrective action through direct engagement, regulatory referral, and public reporting.
We work closely with platform operators, provincial consumer protection agencies, and the Competition Bureau of Canada to ensure that auction marketplaces operate with the integrity that Canadian consumers deserve.
Every bidder deserves access to a fair and transparent auction process, free from insider manipulation.
Our findings are grounded in documented evidence, cross-referenced data, and verifiable facts.
We publish our findings and methodologies to maintain public accountability and industry awareness.
Complainant information is handled with strict confidentiality throughout every stage of investigation.
Our Work
We employ a range of investigative and compliance tools to protect the interests of Canadian auction participants.
Continuous monitoring of online auction platforms for patterns of price manipulation, shill bidding, and employee self-dealing in violation of platform terms and consumer protection standards.
Formal investigation of consumer complaints regarding unfair auction practices, including documentation of evidence, cross-referencing of marketplace activity, and identification of responsible parties.
Structured assessment of auction house practices against platform terms of service, industry best practices, and applicable provincial and federal consumer protection regulations.
When investigations reveal conduct that may violate provincial or federal law, we prepare formal referrals to the appropriate regulatory and enforcement authorities, including the Competition Bureau of Canada.
File a Complaint
If you have experienced or witnessed unfair practices at a Canadian online auction, we want to hear from you.
Every complaint we receive is reviewed by our investigations team. Where patterns emerge or where evidence supports formal action, we initiate a structured investigation.
Provide details of the auction house, the nature of your concern, and any supporting evidence you may have.
Our team reviews your submission for completeness and assesses whether it falls within our investigative mandate.
If warranted, we open a formal investigation, cross-referencing platform data, marketplace activity, and other complaint records.
We pursue corrective action through direct engagement with the auction operator, platform notification, regulatory referral, or public reporting.
We investigate concerns including but not limited to: employee self-dealing, shill bidding, undisclosed item condition, bid manipulation, price inflation by insiders, inventory diversion prior to auction, and violations of platform terms of service.
All submissions are confidential. Fields marked with * are required.
